All Better!

I don't want to jinx myself but I think Kai is finally all better! I know its no big deal when your little one gets sick. And, like my wise mom told me last night, it has to happen and strengthens their constitution. After all, we can't keep him in a bubble, much as we'd like to. But, when you're an anxious first time parent and just a teeny weeny little bit prone to worrying, its a big deal. We've been lucky so far. Kai had coxsackie virus at 6 months and then really nothing else major other than a cold here and there until recently.

Two weeks ago he was on antibiotics for a double ear infection after demonstrating single handedly that a 25 lb toddler can excrete enough mucous to stick together one of the 3 little pigs' houses so that no wolf could ever possibly blow it down!  Then, just days after finishing his meds, he got sick again. This time with a scary high fever that lasted for 4 days! It finally broke and he broke out in a nasty rash that turned out to be roseola virus, a very common and "benign" childhood illness. An interesting thing about roseola is that kids get grumpy after the fever breaks. So we just endured a weekend of grumpiness, food refusal and (thankfully) sleep to catch up on all the sleep missed during the feverish stage.

But tonight Kai demonstrated to us that he probably is all better, or at least almost. He is in a body flinging stage right now. So far we've experienced the throw everything phase, the running phase (this is also known as the fat lip phase), the climbing phase and the pseudo-jumping phase. The body flinging phase requires intense supervision b/c it involves pieces of adult sized furniture and occasionally involves Kaister tumbling to the floor when parental arms aren't in the right place for said flung body. Anyway, tonight the flinging returned with a vengeance. But listening to my little man's squeals and giggles while he was hopelessly tickled by his daddy while flinging himself all over the spare bed was music to my ears. We'll take body flinging any day over Mr. Roseola.
