Bathtubs - the New Toilet

It was only a matter of time, I suppose.  We'd chatted about when to start toilet training.  We'd heard rumors of parents who somehow read their kids and dash them over a toilet before they #2 (some don't even use diapers!).  We'd even thought he had been in poo-production earlier in the afternoon only to find a clean bill-of-health when we undressed him for the evening bath.
So tonight, it shouldn't have come as a surprise all that squatting and focus while in the bath was NOT just to inspect Duckie & his fellow bathtoys.  No... sooner than you could say "Bombs Awayyyyyy!!!!", our little stinker left a couple little stinkers in the bathwater.   Louise & I looked at each other and said "OK, what chapter is this in 'What to Expect, the Toddler Years?'"  But there was no time to check - Kai was peering down and ready to pick up his new "bath toys". I grabbed Kai (hoping there were no late-comers to the party showing up fashionably late) and whisked him to the change table while Louise pondered how to best to transfer poo from one body of water to another.

Eventually, we figured the best thing was to partially drain the tub, use a soon-to-be-disposable rag to do the dirty deed, then scorch the tub w/ the hottest water our water heater could muster along w/ a healthy dose of bleach to-boot.   To this mix, we added whatever toys were in the tub during the 'incident' so they could get a good disinfectin'.

As Grandma Barb said this eve (she's visiting for the weekend), "Ah, the joys of parenthood!"   I think she was just having a secret chuckle that grandmothers are exempt from these events, having well-served their duty many times over.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a little less-adventurous!  We're hoping for another epic apple-picking session (mostly to restock our apple-crisp supplies), and show Grandma Barb around the area.  Next weekend, Grandma C comes into town for Halloween, then Uncle Mike & Aunt Laina the weekend after - Kai's got quite a bit of spoiling scheduled!
