Never a dull moment

This past week was school break, which actually means something now that Kai is in school, even if it is just pre-school. Kai's school is 5 half days/week so when he has a week off, we really notice. So in order to pass the time we decided to spend a few days at CocoKey Resort, marketed as an "aquarium for humans." We figured that since Kai loves water and staying in hotels, he'd enjoy a few days there.

Initially, both of our kids were pretty much....terrified. Yep, terrified at this place that we spent $30 a person to attend. Part of the problem was that the never escapable MASSchaos existed at CocoKey, kids and parents everywhere. So the "lazy river" where you could float on inner tubes looked more like amusement park bumper boats. And for some strange reason, the "small child" area had a kiddie-pool-sized bucket poised right over top of it that dumped gallons of water onto the unsuspecting heads of the children and parents below. Each entry to the "small child" climbing structure and slides also had buckets over the entry way dumping water every few moments. Adding to the chaos were huge sprinklers that spurted water every which way. Kai used to love splash parks but once he turned 2 for some reason he became a bit averse to them. So this whole place didn't look so fun to Kai after all. But he'd been waiting 2 weeks for his visit to the "water park" so he was determined to make the best of it. By the second day he was cruising that lazy river, bumper boats and all, and getting doused by sprinklers and buckets of water as he made his way to the "small child" water slides, and lovin' it. Go Kai!

Teia, not so much. She preferred to don her pink bathing suit and robe and cruise around the pools with Daddy, just taking it all in. She got splashed by random big kids a few too many times for her liking. She didn't seem to mind being a land lubber, there was a lot of action to watch. She had her fun racing around the hotel hallways, riding in the luggage carts and charming anyone who looked in her direction with her pouff and ready "hi!"

This trip continued to be exciting, even after hours. Kai decided it had been awhile since he had worried his parents sick so he woke up near mid-night on our second night coughing and scarcely able to breathe. Once the sleepy fog had lifted it became clear to me that we had an emergency on our hands and w/n a few minutes, Kai and I were on a stretcher in our jammies headed for an ambulance to take us to the local hospital. Kai wore a "froggy" mask full of wonderful albuterol and before long he was breathing nice and easy again.

A few hours later after some steroids, x-rays and some O2 and humidity, Kai was diagnosed with severe croup and experienced his first late night cab ride back to the hotel. His eyes were wide as he took all this excitement in and overall, except for the not breathing part, I don't think Kai minded this whole adventure/ordeal. He is still sick and mom is watching him like a hawk for signs of breathing difficulty and crossing every crossable appendage that Miss T won't come down with this too.

And Mama and Dada Fennell continue to chant "one day we'll sleep again, one day we'll sleep again."
