We are still here. Things have just been much more hectic lately than I think we can remember for quite awhile. Teia turned 16 months on Friday and while she is more and more fun everyday she has decided that she'd rather sleep like a baby than toddler, which means she wakes up again! This isn't so fun for mom & dad but we keep telling ourselves that this too shall pass. We hope it passes by Tuesday when we're all going to attempt sleeping in the same hotel room for the first time!!!
We can't believe in 2 more months Teia will be as close to being 2 as she is to being 1. We really don't know how this happened. Wasn't she a tiny little baby, like, last week?????? We really need this rapidly spinning, running away from us life to slow the heck down. Please. And Kai, oh my goodness, don't even get me started. He is tall and all grown up and turns FOUR in 2 months. How the heck did THAT happen???
Teia and Kai are getting to be good buddies. We went through a not so pleasant hitting phase recently but things are a little more peaceful lately. Each one is obsessed with imitating the other so it has made for some funny times. Kai taught Teia how to jump in her crib and now she is obsessed with jumping. It is pretty funny to watch seeing as she is far too young to actually master this skill but no one has told Teia that and she is pretty determined. She does get a little air every once in awhile and she finds this quite thrilling and reason to keep trying.
The other thing Teia is obsessed with is clothes. Witnessing this first hand I am now convinced that the women and clothes thing is hardwired in our genes. We have done nothing to encourage this but Teia is really, really interested in what she wears. She picks up scarves, hats, helmets, Daddy's shirts and asks for them to be put on. And scarves in particular have to be just so, with a jaunty toss over the shoulder. Just today she found a scarf on one of Kai's teddy bears and decided that it would look good on her. Actually, it did and I think the bear has lost it for good.
She even found a loose binder ring this morning and insisted that she wear it as a bracelet. It worked! Today I pulled out a few things I got on sale at Gymboree. Kai looked at his new shirt and quickly lost interest. Teia insisted that the leggings and jeans I bought her be put on right away. She walked around in each pair for awhile. Crazy.
Teia is also talking. A lot. We're mostly still at the single word level, although today she did say "bye bye baby" to her talking doll when she decided it was time for the doll to shut up. She will repeat just about anything we say to her. Sometimes she is close, sometimes she is way off but she really likes to say words. She loves to say "hi" to everyone, especially in the grocery store. She likes to say "eyes" and poke you in them at the same time. New words for today were "boo" and "bracelet." I am having a hard time keeping up with writing them down. This is pretty amazing for us to witness b/c early words didn't come easily to Kai, although running sure did! But the little man has had some pretty amazing accomplishments of his own lately. He can write his own name now! Just last night he decided he would write it on the condensation (one of his new words) in the bathroom after a shower as he proudly said "K A I spells Kai!" When you're a sleep deprived, free time deprived parent, its the little things that count :-)
