Bedford Day

September is a great month. Kelley and Ryan are having their baby, the leaves are changing, Greg celebrated his birthday, Lance announced a return to professional bike racing, and September 20th is Bedford Day! I've never lived in a town before that had its own day. Well, Kailua has the "I Love Kailua" Festival but it just doesn't have the same ring as "Bedford Day." So Saturday morning we decided to head into "downtown" and check it out.

Bedford really does go all out for Bedford Day. There were hot air balloon rides (if you count staying 50 ft above ground and tethered a balloon ride). But, hey I shouldn't knock it, all the little kids and puppies up in that balloon looked pretty excited. High school cheerleaders and the local dance studio put on shows, there were booths promoting all kinds of community activities from historical heritage stuff to art to organic food to gardening. Folks were selling baked goods and there was a good old fashioned dunk tank. What's a fall fair w/o a dunk tank?
The best part of all was the Bedford Parade so I thought I'd share some photos:

This is the only parade I've been to that consisted mostly of trucks and heavy duty farm equipment.
There were no floats. Unless you count this one (above). There was one very special visitor.
Kai gave the whole thing a thumbs up and loved his first parade, tractors, politicians and all! And Greg loved the free bean:
